The charging time increases. Remember the time constant ?? The resistor limits the current and it takes longer for the cap to charge.

The charging time increases,unless the capacitor is in a filter circuit,where the capacitance is high,they could be used in timing circuits that could require almost any charging time,and discharge time of course.
