I am actually reading this book right now by Sylvia Brown called Book of Dreams. It explains how we have different types of dreams and what can influence them. I am really enjoying the book; maybe you should check it out.

There are different kinds of dreams. Some of them are working out the crap of the day, in essence "junk dreams". Some dreams are messages from the subconscious mind about issues that need to be dealt with. The subconscious speaks in symbols and is not very straightforward or easily understood. My advice would be to start keeping a dream journal and look for patterns in your dreams. You can also check out this dream group if you are interested.

There are many things that influence dreams. Your experiences during the day, past experiences, what you are thinking about when you go to bed, plans for the next day or week, month, etc.

Life experiences usually affect our dreams and also our fears (things we are afraid of etc) affect our dreams also.. You may have dreams about a special guy but you already know why you're dreaming about him, it's either love or lust.

i believe that past experiences and fears definitely influence our dreams but thats not always the case. There will be dreams that make no sense to you what-so-ever and isnt clear till later in your life.
There has been times when I'll have deja vu but in reality it was something in my dreams. Weird huh?
