I have just bought new memory for my computer (sdram pc133) for my computer.

According to crucial.com i could make my memory up to 1.5GB, so I have bought 3 new 512MB memorys for my computer, all seemed well untill I went onto a bingo site (sunbingo and galabingo) and everytime i enterd the chat part my comp crashed.

I put my old memory back in 1GB (512 + 256 + 256) and it worked fine again????

Can anybody PLEASE help, why does the extra memory seem to not work on a "chat" part of a site??

It's tough to say. It could be just that one of the sticks has a teeny little problem with it and that site just happens to send data to that exact location on the memory.

I will say that upgrading from 1 gig of memory to 1.5 gigs of memory on a system with PC133 is pretty much pointless.

I would try each stick individually and see if it is just one of them that causes the problem. If you can isolate it, then you can return the culprit for a replacement.

If its an older computer, they cant handle having 1gb ram... its just too fast for them.

Also even though this doesn't matter to 3x 512mb , but for others who may read this. You need to make sure that the fast of the chips goes in the primary slot (which is the first one), then the next fastest in the secondary slot (next to the primary), and so on. The computer cant pick up on the faster ram chip as it processes the primary slot first. If its a slower chip it will recognise it as the primary.... Sorry if this makes no sense, i know what i mean lol

To add to the last answer, if the chips are OK, then you should also test the RAM slots on the MOBO with a known-good RAM stick. The slots can also go.

If you're willing to learn a bit about it, MemTest is a utility that will test your RAM for you.

I think the guy above me is right. to try and find out if it's a problem with your RAM download memtest (link below).
You'll make a bootable floppy or cd etc and leave the test to run. if your RAM is faulty it'll show up with sh*tloads of errors and then you can RMA the offending DIMM

Yeah, I'd test the ramm. Microsoft has one, I think called something like crash failure analysis. Just boot off the floppy and it does a really cool test. Takes a while but its great and helped me positively identify bad ramm corrupting my data.
