They are saying the recalled food contained rat poison! Can you believe this? I am heartsick that such a thing could happen in this day and age. What safety precautions, if any, were taken when this food was manufactured?
Vets around the country are studying cases from six months previous because they are suspicious that the food may have been contaminated months earlier.

Darby - initially it was those cans/pouches dated back in December '06. ABC news had a vet, not sure if it was from the FDA, who stated that vets around the country are studying cases 6 months prior to December '06 because they seem to think the poisoning started even before then.

What I meant was - Initially the recall was from cans/pouches dated 12/06 thru 3/07. Vets are studying cases dating as far back as June '06.

I rec'vd this from Nutro today:
We have just been made aware that Menu Foods has expanded the date
range of their recall. NO New Products are being added and we ask all Nutro customers that have any wet "cuts & gravy style" pet foods product, regardless of the "best by date," to no longer feed these products to their pets and to return them for a full refund. This action is being taken to avoid customers' confusion in reading specific "best by dates" on individual cans and pouches.

Darby- you're correct, most animals die from internal bleeding after injesting rat poison and we've heard no reports of internal bleeding in these animals. I'm sure the poison reeks havoc on every organ in the body, but this is strange.
