I bought a new laptop 5 weeks ago..it was the last one in the shop and on display, I never buy display items, but did on this occasion, my problem is, after a week, the speakers were crackling...I got it all boxed up thought I better try it again, it seemed ok !!!! Then the battery was running down after 1hr and 15mins, not even using the laptop ( is that just me ? I thought they lasted about 2-3 hours ?) and the final straw was the mains lead to plug into the laptop was faulty, and I pretty much have to hold it in to charge it up...how are my rights regarding asking for a new laptop or getting a refund ???? If these problem are specific to this model..i'll upgrade its a HP Pavillion Entertainment PC DV 6000

Any advice would be appreciated.

They should change it or fix it. You have rights under the sale of goods act which says that something sold must do want it it is meant to do.
What they call suitability of goods. Mention the sale of goods act to them.

It is correct that the Sale of Goods Act states that the item you buy should be fit for the purpose for which it was designed. In other words, if it is supplied with speakers, you should be able to hear a clear sound, if it is designed for being portable, you should be able to charge the battery and it should have battery power to last you for a while. Having said that the battery will be diminished if you are using the laptop for things that need high power. Something which uses the CD/DVD, CPU or hard drive is going to take more power and therefore your battery will die quicker.

The power issue seems to be a problem with HPs Pavillion. Mine is exactly the same and I intend to contact them about this. I cannot move my laptop at all or it switches off mains power. Give HP a call or return to the shop where it was purchased.

Ex display models are usually reduced as there is some wear and tear to the cosmetic appearance. Performance should not be impaired.

Good luck.

I doubt you will be able to return it. Most display models are sold with no return policy. Even if you could return it, 5 weeks is well outside any electronic retailers return period.

But, even though it is a display model, it should still come with the original factory warranty.

Check to find out where in the area a HP authorized service center is located and bring it in there. They will tell you what you need to get warranty service.
