Well, my baby is only 5 weeks, but so far, I haven't been so much hungry but THIRSTY! Even in the hospital, they had to keep refilling my water jug. I asked my doctor about it and she said it's because when u breastfeed, you can get really dehydrated. I think in this instance, breastfeeding has helped me lose some weight. At the end of my pregnancy I was 159. After birth I was at 140-something. And now I'm at 134.

Yes I did! I was nursing for 10 months and it was SO hard for me to loose weight. I heard so many women talking about how much easier it is to loose weight when nursing.... BS! Well you can still eat very healthy. I have met women who have had this same issue. Drink lots of water and eat fresh fruits to help you with cravings. If you like soup, try that and tuna sandwiches. I craved food so much when I was nursing. maybe the baby sucks everything out of us, lol! well best of luck to you. I hope I helped, just wanted to let you know I feel your pain. Way to go on the breast feeding! Good luck!

My midwife recommended drinking an Ensure or two a day. It boosts your calories and vitamin entake. I'm not really big on the flavor so I do mix mine with a little milk. Try that for a few days and see if it helps!

type in LeLeche League into the yahoo seach bar and go to their site.

they have plenty of information on this and other related questions and they are there to support mothers in their efforts to breastfeed. if you don't find what you are looking for they have a place where you can ask questions and you will get plenty of helping hands.

You don't need more calories as such, you need to eat more fruit and veg (A-to help you go back to your ideal weight-if you wish to) and (B-to give the baby more iron, etc)
If you are worried see/or speak to your local doctor/midwife o-par...

you may not have the neccessary proteins to support both you and the baby, some women can't produce milk because there body dosen't have the energy to do so, why not ask your doc?
