You are asking anonymous people on a message board their opinion yet you don't trust anyone.

Adjust the dose on your meds, you should be fine.

First things first, being a skeptic is not the same as a cynic. Skeptics simply doubt things when there is a lack of hard proof. Cynics believe that every action taken by human beings stems from selfish reasons.
However, I understand you man. I'm a cynic and most people think I'm cold, angry, or stoic. The reality is that we cynics are more sensitive than others. When we get hurt, we get hurt bad. Its not a problem when someone is legitimately taking advantage of you, but not everyone is and trusting people is the only way to live happily. Just realize that if someone betrays your trust they're only hurting themselves in the long run, since other people will take notice and be less inclined to trust them. Sooner or later we have to let someone in the door.

No you don't have a problem...it is a healthy attitude to have..especially today. We are so over bombarded with better better better...that when someone tells you that you are enough..it's hard to really believe them because their "seems to be" better everywhere we look...even though much of that is not real. It is okay for you to take some time to be skeptical. Maybe after a while your trust in people will come back around. But you are only doing what is natural...protecting yourself...and that is understandable if you have been hurt before..Take this time and just really be there for yourself and only you. It's okay to be selfish. Then once you are stronger and more aware of what you expect from others..it will be easier to find people that you can trust. I totally understand where you are coming from. I was somewhat naive and let people take advantage of me. But now I realize that cynicism is sort of a healthy attitude to have. So to answer your question...I don't think you have a problem. It's only a problem if it causes you distress and causes more problems than you would have if you weren't skeptical.

You don't necessarily have to be a skeptic or a cynic not to place implicit trust in general humanity.

( Jeremiah 17:5 )

Too, in this hour, remember that the spirit now at work in the world, for a very short time, for the last time, is quite evil.

Yeah Maybe - but don't worry about it!

I know how you feel and I am generally the same way. But, I am confident in myself and take lightly what I trust from others. I do trust my family but am leary of others. But, I am a strong willed person and very outgoing so I can deal with most anything one way or another. I listen to advice but use my own judgement in the end. As for relationships, I am married, but it would be difficult for me to marry and trust again. I would probably play the field forever if ever single again.

But, that is me and happy with myself. I hope you see that you are the same way. If this is a problem that causes you weakness in life then maybe go talk to someone professional.

But just be proud of yourself and how unique you are! ;)

If you're skeptical, it means you have a balanced and critical approach to judging the world. You don't accept claims without evidence to back it up. This is a good thing, I think.

Being a cynic is akin to being a pessimist or nihilist. It means being overly harsh, critical, or judgmental without evidence to back it up. This can be a problem.

Everyone is hurt by those whom they trust at one point or another in their life. But if you never give other people a chance then you are closing yourself off to better possibilities.
That's problematic.

Relax, just count yourself as being careful, so careful you won't step into the same viper pit twice or when you do you have a handy repellent. You think in this way you don't have a problem. You think I have been hurt, because of that I don't trust people, well, than you do have a problem. Do you see your options now?
I can speak because I have been hurt by my own mother and sister, they took my personal life and ripped me to shredds with it. Those were and still are my options. I choose the first option. What about you?

Dear God, you've taken the words right out of my mouth my friend! I feel the same way many times.

All I can say is that I see nothing wrong with you. Only a moron keeps doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result. You have altered your feelings, opinions and beliefs according to what you've experienced and nothing is wrong with that. You'd be a fool to continue skipping along trusting folks if you have been screwed over as many times as you say. Take care.

I would say you became a skeptic and cynical because of the people that hurt you... but.... we can learn from our mistakes and decide to get better not bitter.. it takes work and discipling.

im the same, and looking for someone to trust has become a problem, causes me problems, but i haven't found anyone yet
i don't knwo whether you should do anything about it unless you feel you have to much to carry, in which case maybe a counsellor if you feel you could unload on a stranger who you wouldn't have to see again
