The five pointed star is a pentagram and in magical traditions can mean a symbol of protection. It can also mean the eternal spirit controlling the four elements. The Pentagam can represent man with his arms outstretched surrendering himself to the will of Heaven (remember DaVinci's Man in Motion?).
When this symbol is reversed it represents black magick & is seen behind the Baphomet. Reliable historians will tell you that the word is a corruption of "Mahomet" (Mohammed) . When the man is upside down it represents Satan & the powers of evil.
The six pointed star is a hexogram and is often used as a talisman of Saturn. It has also been known as the Solomon's Seal and the Star of David. It consists of 2 equilateral triangles. The upward pointing triangle represents the fire element, while the downward pointing triangle represents the water element. To many Jewish people it symbolizes the union of matter & spirit.

Penta is five, so a pentagram has 5 points. I suppose a six pointed star is a hexagram.
When a pentagram is stood on a point, it symbolizes a bull or goat. The downward point, is it's chin. The next two points up,are it's ears. The top two points are it's horns.
Of course the six sided star is the star of David. I'm sure though it represents many other things.

The pentagram represents the five elements yjay makes life possible.
The five elements are earth, air, fire, water, and spirit.
The pentagram with one point up is an ancient symbol and was used for thousands of years. The point pointed up represented spirit, and that spirit has dominance over the other four elements.
The pentahram, and the cross were taken by the Satanists and flipped upside down in disrespect of ancient symbols (much like the Nazis took the Buddhist swastica and reversed it and tilted it up on onr corner.
The upcide down pentagram means that the other four elemnt has dominance over the spirit.
The six pointed star is the star of David.

penta = 5
That answers your 6 points question.
The pentagram has been used for protection in many religions at one time or another. It portrays the shape of a human being. Some say that a reversed pentagram is the sign of the devil. This has only been modish for a century or so. At one time, it was a symbol for the crucifixion of Saint Peter, who, most certainly was not the Christian Satan.

Pentegrams are also used for invoking & banishing depending upon which point the drawing originates, and whether it is drawn deosil (clockwise) or widdershins (counter clockwise)

The pentagram is also used in a ritual of protection called "the lesser banishing ritual of the pentagram"
