The most important thing is that you HAVE TO be funny. You have to be creative and come up with your own original jokes that are NOT cheesy and funny at the same time. Once you have that down you have to develop your stage presence. You have to know how to keep the audiences attention. Gestures, Moving around, props, etc. If you have both those things then you can go to a local comedy club and ask them if you can perform. If the people like you then they will request that you perform there again. From there you just need to keep going around to as many comedy clubs as possible to get your name out there and as they say, the rest is history.

Hings. Comic deliveries with a hing are typical. It's like bait and switch. You play to the audience in your act and go with their flow. You know you are doing ok if they shut up their chatter and start listening to what you have to say. It's easy to mess things up, misconstrew and make outragous comparisons. Try this; "New Glish tooth paste, the only toothpaste with food particals for people who can't eat before every brushing!" Or; "Clean-em'-up soap pads! So good, my daughter eats them for breakfest every day!" Get experience, see what other comics do, put together a promo pack and deliver it to prospective clubs that book comics. Study poetry, jokes are a lot like poems with a set up ending, don't blow your well planned lines, get your timing down. Try one liners and also story jokes with outragous endings. If nothing else, study Bush, he knows all the current jokes - he appointed them all! ba-ba-boom. Study grammer and languages and feel free to misconstrew prononciations and meanings. Study the material of comics you like. Get on stage often to hone your stuff. Work out sets to fit the club and time frame you have to work with. And if you don't do it, who will?

You have to be born with a gift of being stupid, without knowing it. Of course you have to have the delivery down pat,
but i find it impossible for people to train themselves to be funny. Stand up comics have a gift of stupidity that can only be harnessed on stage.

You go to a place where they let people perform with no pay, and the audience will let you and them know if they like you. If the audience likes you, you get invited back a few times before they finally offer to pay you.
You may have to go a bunch of times before you actually get to perform.
