We all have a light and a dark side. Like the yin and the yang. Life itself does too. In fact, we cannot truly be whole unless both of those parts of us are in balance. I lived for a long time only on the light side...doing everything perfect and everything was just right and "pretty," but it could not last. Soon I found myself only in the dark, the darker side of life, addiction, depression..etc. So to truly be a complete person...you must find a way to balance both of these sides...they both have interesting dimensions to offer us...and unique perceptions come to you as well. It is a challenge...because our society tells us to never ever be in the dark side. If you have this problem...you have to fix it right away. But I have found that those darkest times are what teach us the most. If you are just talking about light/dark as in day/night then I probably didn't answer your question..but this is what I took from it. Cheers.

Light is desirable simply because we have eyes for seeing in the light. If we had a sense organ that could "see" in darkness, then maybe that would be more desirable. I think you focus too much time on the minutiae of life.

Light is so desirable because it is an actual material substance. Darkness presides in the absence of light. Who wants to have nothing when they can have a whole lot of something?

Darkness is just the mere absence of light. I think we find light desirable because it illuminates, and gives us a sense that we know where we are going, both literally and figuratively. I believe we can find beauty in darkness as well as peace and calm. And the contrast, like happiness and sadness, serves to heighten our appreciation of the richness of human experience.

Ahh, the scholar and the fool, a wise man learns from both. The problem being that the light is the greater good for all, the darkness is a self-serving existence, usually harmful to others.

Yes there are things to be found in the darkness, but humans do not fare well in it. We need the light as it gives us reassurance that the things we may fear in darkness warm in the light and they are made safe for us. Yet dark must temper light, what we fear in the darkness, makes us stronger in the conquering of our fear and we move on knowing dark will recede and we will be rewarded with warm bright light.

Light reflects better at night. Take the stars for instance, they are light reflections from a million light years away and the speed of light is over 113,000 mph. There are times that the Moon illuminates the midnight sky too.

I can't sleep with the light on. I love it when I close my eyes and I see the darkness!0!
We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark; the real tragedy of life is when men are afraid of the light...Plato.

It makes me feel so good when I'm in the light. Darkness is only good for sleeping, and that's ok when you need to sleep. Otherwise, what purpose does darkness have?

Darkness makes lights brighter. I prefer the darkness over the light as in I prefer the moon over the sun.
