Ugh! We have the same problem...cats all over! One even lives in our barn, but we figure he's keeping down the possum population, so we don't bother him. For a lot of good options, visit this site:

Cayenne pepper. Sprinkle it wherever the cats go. I would imagine that you could mix it with water and spray it on. My dog was digging in one of my potted plants.... and that stopped her. Not a large amount. Just enough to let them know that this is not an area for them.

I use a 12 gauge to great effect.I suggest large pellets like #2 or so to cut down on cripples.A full choke is also helpful,especially for little ones.
