I've been talking with my ex-boyfriend, who is my best friend, on the phone for the past three nights, and even though he has a girlfriend, I still kind of like him.
And at 4 this morning, after I was about to fall asleep so I got off the phone with him around 3:45, he sends me a message: "I liked talking with you tonight. It was nice."
Nice?

He is saying that is was nice to talk to you. He was being polite and possible likes you a little more than you think.

I have this happen all the time, except I'm the guy. I'll tell you exactly whats going on. He has his new girl, and likes her more than you. But, that could end one day and he wants you to be there waiting in case he enters a period of lonliness and needs sex... you're basically a backup plan, and he knows you'll over-think this and respond favorably when he puts forth the effort. His GF doesn't know he's talking with you at 4am, she'd be pissed...Its a good position to be in for him, he has 2 girls into him and he's loaded with confidence. You can either sleep with him, sleep with him AND his girlfriend simultaneously, or sleep with another, larger guy than him to make him really squirm, especially after you show his GF the messages he's been leaving you...however you do it, make it exiting and live it up, makes for way better stories and memories...

Nice means nice; pleasant. Listen, guys don't actually like talking on the phone. If he's willing to sit there and listen to you until 4 in the morning, he's still got feelings too. Don't panic. Feelings are just feelings, you can act on them or not- either way is perfectly fine. Do remember that he's got a girlfriend, because if you can break that up, you can be broken up.

If you want to translate "Man Speak" just look up the words in the dictionary. Men are not complicated and usually mean exactly what they say. We women are always looking for hidden meanings because they are in every word we utter.
He didn't say "Talking to you tonight really made me miss being with you" and if that's what he meant, he would have said it.
I'm not trying to be harsh but men just aren't that complicated. They want food, entertainment, sex, clean clothes, shelter, a muscle car and a woman they like looking at that doesnt bother them too much when they want to be left alone to watch football or whatever it is they do.

Nice - meaning he might be considering getting you back, AND keeping the girlfriend he has already. I just wonder how you manage to switch from boyfriend to best friend and be cool about it! Does he call you his best friend too? When does he speak to his girlfriend, if he is talking to you at such odd hours? I think you need to tread carefully, he may just want to have his cake and eat it! Trust me, in situations like that you will end up the loser...

He's keeping you on the side. Even if he hasn't made a move for you, he wants the insurance someone else will be there if his current thing ends.
Let me ask you, who broke it off? You or him.
If you broke it off with him, then he still has feelings for you. If he broke if off with you, he's trying to play.

it means that he really likes you and wants to get to know you
he doesn't want you to know that he likes you
In my opinion he really likes you but doesn't want to dump his gf just for a girl that he doesn't even know if he can have or not
You can tell by when he messaged you that he was thinking about you deeply but at first was too shy to message you
it also seems like he was trying to make the message as pefect as you can

That means you didn't totally bore or irritate him. You said interesting, relevent things and didn't ramble on too much about feelings. Don't worry so much about disecting "man-speak". They aren't known for being especially subtle.
