I believe so. What it did was completely slow down your heart rate like when you get hypothermia.

I have a feeling something like this exists because the people who practice Voodoo use a potion that renders the person into what they call a zombie. Saw a documentary once and there were people who'd not been awakened in time and they suffered nerve and brain damage. The narrator of the docu. said that they throw away the pot used to make the mixture because it's deadly.

I don't know about that specific example, but there are poisons that do this... and if I'm not mistaken, they are from the puffer fish, if not other sources.

I dunno about "giving the appearance of death" but taking a few ketamine (horse tranquilisers) will sure as hell make 2/3 days disappear.
