I like petunias. They come in so many different colors and last a long time in a sunny place with good watering! you could put a contrasting color of simple little marigolds, and maybe a few geraniums in the back for height! These are all easy and beautiful! If your spot is more on the shady side I would recommend bleeding hearts because they are so fun to watch open, and kids love the dangling little hearts!

I would plant some Stella D'Oro reblooming daylilys they are a rich yellow color and comes back year after year without replanting. They are extremely hardy and hard to kill. They like the sun and is ok in part shade also. Loves all types of soil. You could plant annuals like petunias, dusty miller, geraniums, marigolds which are all very easy to grow plants. Remember that once a flower blooms, then dies, cut off the flower so that it will produce more flowers.

It depends on how much sun and what type of soil you have. Check out HGTV.com (under gardening) or pallensmith.com, for helpful tips on how to figure out the best types of plants. If you want low maintenance, try perennials; that way they come back every year and all you have to do is weed and mulch. You'll need to "stagger" them, according to the time they bloom, if you want blooms all summer. Experiment...try buying your first plants at farmers' markets or church sales. That way, if you don't succeed, you're not out too much money. Good luck!
