I need to somehow get a surfboard from melbourne to sydney -without me taking it...any ideas on postage/courier or something similar etc??

Try Greyhound (McCaffertys) buses. They can transport this overnight/day, also for extra can pickup and deliver, rather than taking it to a terminal.
