"Iran's military doctrine and capacity is defense of its own territorial integrity only, not offense. Also, Iran has never attacked any of its neigbors in the region in the past 300 years, even when it was badly provoked in 1998 by the Taliban in Afghanistan, which had a much smaller army."

If you ignore training insurgents, sending men, arms and money into other countries then you are correct. So what? Do you think that Iran is a humanitarian country? You like wikipedia. Have you read Iran's constitution?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constitution_of_Iran
The Preamble to Iran's constitution states: "The Assembly of Experts for Constitution...fram[ed] the Constitution...[after input] by the government...with the hope that this century will witness the establishment of a universal holy government and the downfall of all others."

Hmmmm. DOWNFALL of all others (governments) ...... now that does not sound like a humanitarian governent to you?

Sooooo, also, how do Iran's leaders get along with the diplomats of other countries? For example those in the U.N. ?

Regarding enrichment of uranium, Iranian President Mahmaoud Ahmadinejad abruptly cancelled his appearance before the U.N. security council and in his stead, Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki Iran spoke. He indicated that Iran was willing to continue negotiations but without the precondition that uranium enrichment must be halted.

Mottaki said, "the world has two options to proceed on the nuclear issue: continued negotiations or confrontation. Choosing the path of confrontation ... will have its own consequences. "

The U.N. security council unanimously voted to expand sanctions on March 24, 2007.

The new resolution 1747 calls on Iran to comply fully with all previous UN resolutions and join negotiations to reach agreement so as to restore international confidence in the peaceful nature of its nuclear program. Full transparency and cooperation with the IAEA are required. Suspension of Iran’s banned nuclear activities will elicit the parallel suspension of sanctions. The package of incentives offered Tehran last year for its cooperation remains on the table.

The full text of the draft of resolution 1747 appears at this website:

Let's see now, maybe Iran is going to have a chance to put its military doctrine to good use in the very, very near future.

Iran never attack`s any of it`s neighbor`s or any other county. Why should they when they can pay Hezbollah and other terrorist to do that for them. and if any body is clueless or a Squawker it is you. What will it take before you and people like you wake up and smell the coffee. That if Iran ever got the chance to Attack the U.S.A. it would do that and the only reason they don`t Attack us is because they know that they would never win if they did Attack us.But if they ever get a nuclear bomb they would gladly use it to start a nucleer war and kill themselves us and every one else in the world. IN the name of Alla.

What about the Iraq-Iran war? There was certainly a level of Iranian provocation there. And whilst Iran may not directly attack its enemies, it does fund groups that do. Iran is the main source of funds for Hezbollah, for example.

Iran might not start as many wars as some countries, but you can't say it doesn't have a level of belligerence, and it's beginning to assert its power in a big way. It wants to become a major player in the middle east, and so far its plans are being fufilled. It's not a direct threat, but to argue that it's a peaceful country is erroneous.

Your right in one way, Iran is smart in that they keep their ahdns clean. They fight their battles via proxy, such as completely funding Hizbullah to f*ck with the israelis so that way israel cant blame Iran.

It's really amusing that you should use Wikipedia as your source for information.

It's not really what I would sell the farm on if I had to hand out facts on ANYTHING relevant.

Given the way Iran support terrorist groups which HAVE attacked plenty of people.. I'll have to say it's utter BS.

They just don't have the military strength to take on the US or NATO or Israel straight up.. so they rely on terrorism.

What about this one - Iran stated it would wipe Israel off the face of the world. Israel is one of our only good allies in the region. Enough said.
