I have seen them both and if your finger is jammed usually it is swelled slightly around your knuckle and it is tender when you move it. Now if it was broken then it would swell up and turn black and would be excruciating to move. But your best bet is to go to the docs. Usually they can tell by just looking at it if they think it is broken then they will send you for an x-ray. Good luck =)

there really is no way to know unless u go to the doc, BUT if u really cant move it, then u COULD have broken it. if it just hurts to move it, but u can, it might not be broken. but like i said there really is no way of knowing unless u go to the doc. Good Luck. Hope u feel better!

Only an X Ray can tell for sure; unless the bone is sticking through the skin.

If you can move it, it is usually not broken. However it can still have a stress fracture. Watch for swelling, bruising, etc. Might need to see a dr.
