Dear Diary,
Today was another disappointment. We seem no closer to our goals and provisions are low. In camp, everybody is restless about what the morrow may bring. More hunger? More frost bite? Morale is so low, I fear mutiny. Will they leave me here in this strange land like they did the explorer Hudson?
The snow has not ceased in three days. The wind billows at out tents and takes the life out of our camp fires.
I close my entry with hopes for a better tomorrow, or at least one no worse.
......if you choose mine please tell me what kind of grade you get. I had to do a project like that last year. I find teachers like old-sounding language, so good luck! I tried. Hope it helped....Lexi

Dear Diary ... my fingers are half frozen and the pencil lead hardly seems workable. It's all a manifestation of the day I've had today. I left Cripple Creek and the New Hope mine before daybreak not knowing that the blizzard was about to engulf the valley. I feel a bit like the Donner Party and would gladly join them in a feast of humanity, but I am alone and cold and my toes no longer have any feeling left in them.
I tried a bit ago to get my fire lighted, and unlike the man in Jack London's tale I was able to get it started and banked against a large rock here at the creeks edge, but it gives off too little heat and the night is too dark. Snow continues to cascade down from the skies and I must constantly brush the dry flakes away from this journal
At this point, all I can say is I'd better be able to find some gold up along Lost Deer Creek to make this suffering worth it. I'd gladly exchange all of this for just one quiet evening at home with dear Pauline, but I know I would never do that either. While my memories might be enchanting, I am here because I love this. I love the cold. I thrive on the adventure. I crave the blizzards and the droughts.
