Might I suggest a darker background image? A bright collection of tables and images, fonts, etc., on top of a bright background definitely throws the content of a page off quite a bit. The "American Idol" page is a perfect example. =P
I do suggest learning HTML, as ANY WYSIWYG editor, or editors used by sites like FreeWebs.com, will give you a VERY basic range of flexibility.
Transparent tables are a huge no-no as well, but only if you're looking for great design. But in your case, as a "casual developer," it's not that big of a deal. But you still need a darker background image. It throws the text in the table out, basically.
Overall, though, it is a pretty well-designed site for an "amateur" web site. I just thought I'd offer some advice. =)

I don't really like the whole semitransparent block over background image thing; the image under the text has too many sharp edges and too much contrast.
Try this: make another version of that background that is blurred and slightly desaturated, use that as the background for the text, without transparency. Use background-attachment: fixed for both backgrounds so they line up the same way.

you are looking to place to much stuff on ur website, some that is unrelated. if its a ploy to get hits on ur counter, then this is depressing. Honestly:
learn html code, and write it yourself. free editors like freewebs dont give u full accessibility to the websites potential
your counter is way to big also :/ a small one is nice :)
