No...Bertuzzi's sucker punch and driving him into the ice caused the broken neck. The piling on by other players may have contributed to the injury, but it was Bertuzzi's punch that was the root of the problem. Watch the video again...Bertuzzi basically drove him into the ice face first....

Todd Bertuzzi is not the reason Moore's neck got broken?!? Pray tell, how did you come to that conclusion??
I sure would like to know what version of that incident you saw.
Moore's neck was broken because Todd Bertuzzi hit him from behind and knocked him down so he IS the reason Moore's career is over.
I'm not going to get into if he should have been banned for life or not but I just don't understand how you can say Bertuzzi is not the reason. Well...I suppose you could say he's not the reason--he's the PROBLEM!!

Wow. What a bunch of hate for Bertuzzi. You would think that is was all of your necks that he broke. It is not worth taking the man's livlihood away. He payed the price-to the person who said it was only a few games should know that Bertuzzi was not allowed to play in Europe and whatnot during the lock-out so it was much more severe than you think. I laugh at the FOR LIFE comments. How drastic is that?
I have seen much worse but the player wasn't hurt as badly ot at all so the offender was not vilified near as much as this guy. I am starting to feel sorry for him. He felt bad and payed the price-move on.
Let's face it, he went down awkwardly and besides HAD HE BEEN A MAN and turned around and fought, he would still be playing his 10 minutes a game on a 4th line somewhere.

He was charged by Vancouver Police. Bertuzzi pleaded guilty to assault. The judge ordered him to do community service and he was put on probation. Gretzy is a bum for picking Bertuzzi over Crosby for the Canadian Olympic team.

This is so old it’s near pointless to ask. Charged for what?! Bringing police into sports is wrong and has no place. Charging athletes for events happening during a game or match has no place in sports either. Fine them. Bann them. Punish them. But do it all internally through the sports governing bodies and leave the outside world of police and law out of sports.
Bertuzzi didn’t try to harm anyone to that severity. Yes he wanted to fight Moore all night and if Moore would have just manned up to the cheap shot he put on Naslund weeks earlier that took the then NHL leading goals scorer out of action for a few games Moore would be playing hockey still today. If the Av’s coach would have took Moore off when they were leading 5-1 in the 3rd More would be playing today. If Moore wouldn’t have laid that cheap shot on Naslund then hey… you know the answer.
Fact is Bertuzzi got tired of chasing Moore all night to fight, was losing an important game in front of his home crowd, and in the heat and passion of pro sports lost his rag and cheap shot Moore from behind and then jumped on his back riding him to the ice head first. I doubt he anted to pile drive his head into the ice but he sure did wanna hurt Moore. Bad choice for Bertuzzi.
If Moore wasn’t so badly hurt and injured Bertuzzi would’ve got maybe 5-7 games max (cause that is or was pretty long leading up to this incident). Instead Moore was unfortunately hurt very bad and Bertuzzi paid the price and has since paid his dues. Missing the remainder of the season and the playoffs all while watching your team go out in the first round and then missing playing for your country in World Championships (in Canada that means something too) losing his endorsement contracts like Gatorade hurt him also. Fined over ½ a Million. Tarnished image throughout the league and his game has never been the same since.
Bertuzzi paid his price and that is that. Time to move on. What it is.. it is

Wow, you must not have actually watched the game (or the footage of the incident). Steve Moore's head BOUNCED off the ice after Bertuzzi shoved him face-first. Yes, that broke his nose as well, but NONE of it would have happened if Bertuzzi hadn't made that move.

Bertuzzi should have challenged him to a fight and not retaliated the way he did. McSorley and Chris Simon should have also done the same. If the guy doesn't want to fight thenm he just looks like a wimp. You should always take the high road and keep your emotions in check.

well you would be pissed off if someone ran up behind you and punched your neck & drove you into the ground, breaking your nose and neck. yes, bertuzzi is the only reason moore broke his neck. why don't you go read the reports get your story straight. if it was my choice he wouldn't play until moore played (bertuzzi missed all of 13 games)

Chris C--- how do you know we are not all hockey fans? I am a huge hockey fan in fact im playing Junior hockey right now and even I agree that bert should have been banned. how can you come out here and say he had no intention on hurting moore? have you seen the footage? so i guess he just skated up behind him to give him a hug? get your fact straight before you open your mouth and insults us hockey fans, you can forgive and forget when moore is still rehabbing and not in the NhL, bert shouldnt even be playing and the charma has happened to him and the cannucks since and rightfully so. and by the way he is washed up, and detroit is in no way in hell winning the cup GO SHARKS!!!
bob lablaw--- i swear everytime you make a comment i have to sit back in amaement to the fact that you actually said it. lets say you were moore and got your neck broken, do you think you would forget it? probably not. you need to think about the other side, people make it seem like bert wasnt trying to hurt him, and for the record it was not moores job to fight him he isnt a fighter,, the avs shoulda sent someone to stand up for him but that didnt happen, and as for bert being pissed about the hit on nasland the previous game he shoulda let that go because it was a LEGAL hit. and as for you quit trying act like you know it all cause you dont, pissing me off like your gods gift to hockey or something, trying playing the sport then tell me something. I have experience playing I played midget AAA and am currently playing Jr A so get back to me later
