Hi, when I was in high school or just beginning college I would have answered the "B" in the honors AP. But now that I have been working in industry and see how competitive it is to get into top schools like NYU even for masters programs, I would say the "A" is better in your standard class. The school application is typically a 3-part process nowadays: high school transcript (GPA), application including recommendations, and your SAT scores. If your GPA is slightly lessened by a "B" in an AP course it won't hurt you too much on the surface, but statistically your GPA will be slightly lower so why not just take the "A" and have a higher GPA?? In the long run you won't ever look back when you are done college and say....."you know I should have taken AP english instead of college prep". You, nor your employer will ever care at that point. I know many people that have taken college prep courses and went on to become executives of their companies. However, if you really want to feel like you are ahead of the class it isn't "bad" to take AP courses....just not necessary.

AP classes are all are taught to the same test. One class shouldn't be any easier than the other class. Perhaps one teacher is simply presenting the material in a different, easier to digest manner. What the college will care about is your score on the AP exam and the percentage of students in your school that score well on their AP exams. This is what keeps you all on the same playing field regardless of what the teacher is teaching in the classroom. Everyone takes the same test. PS--colleges look at a lot more than your grades. Just do the best you can and don't forget the extracurricular activities, etc.

I think that a "B" in an honors course is better because the work is usually harder, I think that fact that you're in an honors course is really great, and you shouldn't be second guessing yourself. Just try harder next time and get an "A" because you obviously have the brain for it.

Definitely a B in an honors course. It shows that you're willing to work hard and take classes that will challenge you, which colleges really like to see in a prospective student. Good luck! :-)

It depends on the program you intend to pursue in college. If you aren't going into a program that requires AP English or APUSH, then it is better to get an "A" in a regular class. If you intend to go into a Pre-Med program, they'd rather see classes like APBIO.

It would really depend on your other grade and your GPA. As someone who has A's in all my adv. placement classes, and A's in all other classes fro that matter, it and really just depends on the amount of effort you put into the class. If you have effort in that class, but you only have a B for others reasons like unfinished work or bad test scores, then your fine. But if your lacking in participation, then you might want to work harder.
