Firstly if you want to sell.....
research the same items for sale on there, look at minimum price asked and p&p prices. look at titles and how you can catch people's interest in a short title.
Secondly, you have to take a digital picture. You can either display this as a small picture alongside your item ("gallery) for which you're charged £0.15. Or don't in which case it displays an icon showing a picture is available when you visit the item description. Saves you £0.15.
Next, you have to describe your item and I'd recommend being TOTALLY HONEST. Point out any defects, making sure any buyer can't come back with any faults you haven't described.
THEN, you have to decide how much you're willing to accept for the item and put this as your minimum bid. Set it low and maybe it'll only sell for that price. Set it too high and maybe people will think you're asking too much and won't bid! THEN think how much to charge for postage and packing and what postal service you'll offer. This means in my case, visiting Royal Mail.com and printing off their weight/prices.
THEN, bearing in mind an item bubble wrapped and brown papered and selloptaped, or even boxed, will weigh more so increase the p&p price! So BIG TIP, when quoting p&p, include how much you paid for the jiffy bag, brown paper and bubble wrap etc.... and then wrap your item and weigh it! Look at your printed prices for that weight for either 1st/2nd class postage or Std Parcels. ALWAYS include if you're happy for local people to come and collect free of charge (and therefore save p&p to them and wrapping to you).
THEN bear in mind you'll have ebay listing fees! AND if you accept paypal payment, paypal acceptance fees, and add this on to your p&p cost quoted. YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED ON EBAY to say you're charging extra for p&p and paypal charges, so if something's gonna cost you £1 to send, say £xx having added on what you think is a fair amount to cover the extras.
ADDRESS wise, you're securely covered. When you join ebay, you'll have an account settings page where you can decide what info you want to make public/private. Once you buy or sell, and pay for an item, then your address info does become knowledge to your buyer or seller. Normally by paypal, once you pay (and you've previously registered with paypal to do so and therefore given paypal an address, this will be the address auto listed when you pay via paypal). But you have the option of adding a note to the seller to send it to a different address (if it's a gift etc). In that case, I'd always contact the seller first and ask if they'd do that.
Addresses etc are only made available to final contracts, ie you won or sold the item...so you need the contact details for your buyer/seller. An invoice or payment notification will include this but nothing else.
In your My Ebay, you have a record of who bought from you/who sold to you which always includes the option to contact the buyer/seller via ebay. Email addys are not made public unless you set your setting to say so.
God, I feel I've gone on forever! It's not as easy as the tv ad makes it look but it is rewarding and a way of getting rid of what you don't want any more anonymously. As long as you're willing to put in the time and effort and the p&p, and BE HONEST, you might break even....or make a profit. The knack is knowing what will and won't sell!
If you want to look at an ebay seller and check out the perfect feedback (cos I'm honest) and contact me via ebay etc...just go into ebay.co.uk and search for items for sale from seller celinego (then click on an item description and without having to bid, therefore no comittment on your part, just click the "ask seller a question" option".
THEN of course, once your item has sold, you DO have to await payment, then wrap it, post it and get proof of postage and wait for feedback from your buyers! But at least you've got rid of something!!!! Any maybe even made some space at home!

You sell your stuff & ebay makes a lot of money. I sold on there for 5 years. It was the 2nd biggest mistake of my life. Do a yahoo search for ebay sucks & look at some of the 3,830,000 results. I think you'll be surprised. I found out too late. Best wishes. I used a post office box to receive, & a vacant property I had for an address.

You register with ebay and paypal. (no other payment process). You list your item , very easy to do. When the person buys it, their address is shown to you and you post it. The only person to find out your address is the person you buy and sell from. It would not be of any interest to people to know your address, as they wouldn't know to use it. You can join e-bay and before you sell anything, ask them about their security and privacy rules.

Click on sell and follow the steps it is very easy. Your address is only public to the seller if your buy an item.. so he/she knows where to send it
If you are selling and choosr to only to accept paypal payments then your address wont be showen.
If you choose to accept payment by cheque or postal orders then the buyer will get to see your address as he/she will need to know where to send the money.
So if you dont want the buyers to know your address then just accept paypal payments..
You wil be find

Your address is only given out to the seller after you have bought an item. It's never made public.

Hi, if your selling stuff on ebay and have your payments go
through paypal (recommended) the buyers will know your
address when you send the goods, and not before.your address is not public.

Your personal info stays hidden until you make the final purchase. The shipper has to know where to send the item they sold.
Selling stuff is easy just walk through the steps they have on there. Its pretty self explanitory

You're asking two questions here so I'm a little confused by your request.
Can't tell you anything regarding selling on eBay as I've never done it. Read the eBay instructions for that.
As for buying have done it many times and never worried about paying through paypal and getting stuff sent to my address, your address is logged with them and then when you pay it is given to the seller and no one else.
If you're that worried about it don't buy on eBay!!

bit complicated to go through it all but your address is not given out unless you send parcels recorded or special delivery which is best, its no different than selling through a newspaper and youd have to give out your details then.
