I'm a very awkward person, and I feel very intimidated by this girl. If I'm so intimidated, should I ask myself why I want to be with her in the first place, or should I try and make things work and get over my shyness?

Of course you have to try to get over your shyness, you might be missing out on good things. Just stop analyzing it and go for it.

Everybody, even old guys like me, gets nervous when it comes to asking a woman out. Everybody gets rejected. Once in a while, though, you are lucky enough to get a date. Intimidation is not a good start. When you find yourself thinking about one special girl all of the time, that's the girl to take the chance on. The one whose eyes you get lost in, the one that has the greatest smelling hair you could ever imagine. The one that you want to give everything you own to, and buy everything you don't own for. The one you would lay down your life for. You WILL meet her sometime. And you'll be able to overcome your shyness, because you NEED to at that point. You'll know.

I would first try to flare up a conversation with her and see her attitude as a person, if she comes across with a very strong attitude, it is not that you are intimidated by her it is that she is not for you.
Nobody should intimidate you. Being intimidated by someone is that you are fearful of them. Don 't be afraid of her, what is the worst thing she can do, say she does not want to go out with you. Then find someone willing to enjoy your company.

opposites attract! We always seem to reach out to people that hold characteristics that we lack. The shy quiet type is adorable but no personality is just a bore so just remember that chances are she has issues with self esteem, we girls often do and instead of people seeing our insecurities some like to masquerade behind a very forward, outgoing personality, a mirage so to say. Don't be scared, just return the favor and let the show begin, image her as someone you are relaxed with and soon enough you won't have to pretend your not pissing your self every time she comes around. hehehe! Good luck buddy! O 'yeah, if she's mean then that does not get better with age, find someone who appreciates your personality just as it is!

Guys are always intimidated by mi so its like there hot but dont have no personality its like there scared to talk to mi I dunno why and you probably wont get over your shyness but try to stop being shy for a moment for her and once your comfortable with her you might not be shy anymore but Im a shy person and no matter how hard I try Im always shy.

Get over your shyness. Theres not one thing more that girls hate is that they dont show how the guy feels. Just be honest with her you might regret it if you dont.

ok back when i was in school, which was a long time ago,, i found my self likeing a girl, an to being very shy, so i learn her book locker, an started putting little note in it,,,, well it took a little time, but she found me out,, ,,,after that we was the best of friend,,,ooooo an the week in bed was wourth it, lol she try to kiss me in class, an i for got i was 2 floor up, ,, honest the fall did not hurt, but the landing,,,

Imagine she is a guy, that should make you feel more comfortable. But if that makes you feel more excited, maybe you're going for the wrong person.
