I heard that with A LOT of singing you can actually damage your vocal chords & I think that's why I ve done right now because I m sick. So if there is such a thing as singing loud can hur tyour vocal chords, how do singers deal with this problem? Do they take medications or what do they do in general to constantly keep singing without damaging anything?? THank YOU.

You can damage your vocal chords if you sing all up in your throat. Also, illness smoking and poor health habits can affect your voice, as can the 'cookie monster' vocal style thats popular with newer metal bands.. A singer's body is his/her instrument - so taking care of yourself is extremely important. Additionally - getting some training in vocal technique, diaphragm breathing etc, can increase your volume, while decreasing your risk for injury.
Best of luck to you!

it's always a possibility to rip your vocal chords while singing, especially screaming.
for example... if you've ever heard the of the band From First To Last, the former lead singer (Sonny Moore) tore his vocals chords due to his high singing and ocassional screaming in the songs.. He's gotten tons and tons of surgeries on his vocal chords, but his never doesn't sound like it used to, and that's one reason he left the band (that and he went to do a solo career)
When a singer tears a vocal chord they will a lot of times get surgery.. However, their voice will never be the same. Another good example of this is Julie Andrews (The Princess Diaries, The Sound Of Music, Mary Poppins). She had a surgery of some sort for her throat, the doctor did something to the vocal chords, and now she can never sound like she did in The Sound Of Music.
Basically, tearing or hurting your vocal chords is extremely bad. Your voice may never sound the same. Sure, you can get surgeries, but who knows how much they will help. You can take certain medications after you have damaged your voice. Try not to scream a whole lot, and if you do don't force yourself to do it, only scream while singing and only sing in a semi-high picthed voice if it's really natural and doesn't hurt to do so. Don't overpractice-you'll get your vocal chords tired and you'll overdo it.

I know sometimes you have to get surgery in order to sing the same again, but most likely you just strained your vocal cords. You should take some voice lessons to learn how to prevent this.

i'm sad 4 u. well ima singer. it depends on a lot of things. like: lifting soft pallet, singing from your whole body and not your throat, singing in your range, using your solarplexis, and so on, so if u r serious about singing and dont want to get hurt, be careful! email me if u have questions.
