Self-esteem is the feeling that you are a good and valuable person, worthy of respect and love. It is a set of attitudes about yourself related to your self-image.
Strong self-esteem comes from living a life in which you do your best in relationships and in meeting the challenges of life. The feedback you've received from people tells you that they like you and respect you. You believe you have valuable strengths and other good qualities.
Low self-esteem comes from living a life in which you may have failed or have made mistakes for which you haven't forgiven yourself. Sometimes victims of abuse come to believe they are unloved and unlovable. It may be that people have blamed you or that you've blamed yourself unfairly, but now the feeling is there that you're a weak, bad or unworthy person.
Good mental health and strong, healthy relationships are greatly enhanced by strong self-esteem. Low self-esteem is detrimental...making it hard for the victim to accept and respond well to others.
Usually low self-esteem is a deeply ingrained behavior/attitude pattern with complex origins, so it can take a very intense, prolonged effort to turn this around.

This is esteem is what one sees ones self as but this may not be what that person is. Example a heavy girl may dress a little dirty and think she is sexy when the world actually see a girl with a tank top on with a belly hanging over sagging into her 3inch jean skirt not sexy, Example a beef head works out all the time and shoots up all the time and wears tank tops. He thinks he is cool but rule #1 if you are a tank don't where the top you look like a fool

In my opinion self esteem is the way you view yourself. Like you looking at yourself from the outside as if you are someone else.

well self esteem : this is more than what you think of yourself to be but what you believe that others look at you as. in the present state of the world today we wind everyone trying to build up a reputation of themselves and want others to look at it. this current trend has also pushed people to do extra ordinary in what ever they find themselves doing. hope i help you in expanding your thought. maybe i didn't answer your question but broaden your mind.

It's how you feel about yourself. If your self-esteem is low, you're going to be thinking you're pretty Sucky People. If your self-esteem is high, you're going to think you're pretty Cool People.

How you feel about yourself!
Some say that one who has large handwriting has high self-esteem, but I don't know if that's all too credible.

Self esteem is mental sex with your mental image. As I, Sigument Freud would say, it is the libidinalization of a cathected self-image.
