Avoid mothballs! They are toxic and your cats could get poisoned. Cedar chips, or something citrus-based should work (Cats hate citrus!). After raking out the cat feces, cover the area with a heavy piece of plastic (this will protect the porch, too, from rising moisture) and fasten it to the ground. Then close the space between the porch & ground in with lattice or screen (get these at a hardware store of Home Depot), making sure to dig down and run attached wire mesh into the dirt (cats may not be the only culprits--you may have skunks under there too and they WILL dig!).

You have a bathroom under your porch?
What talented cats to use the bathroom. Too bad they seem smarter than you, someone who cannot explain the situation clearly.

Spray under the porch with bleach in a garden sprayer, then spread 4 boxes of mothballs over the ground.

I think you mean your cats are using the underneath of your porch as a bathroom.
Wood chips strongly smelling of cedar might help with the smell, but I would try and train them to go somewhere else.
But I can't imagine it having that strong of a smell unless several dozens cats are urinating in the same place and if you have that many cats. . . .you have other problems to worry about.

Why do you have a bathroom under the porch if you don't want it to be used?? LOL

yea, i would just use screening or chicken wire or some other method to keep the cats from going under the porch. they shouldn't go down there because it is just going to turn into a cess pool down there without the (*****) being cleaned up. this will attract disease and is just disgusting.

I would suggest ceder chips or mothballs. Both these would also tend to discourage the cats from using this area as a bathroom.
