lol...the pressure on the inside of the straw is greater than that of the pressure in the outside of the straw causing a va-cumm

You create a vacuum inside the straw by drawing the air out of it. The atmospheric pressure outside the fluid around the straw pushes the water up the straw, to occupy the vacuum.

pressure is reduced on the interior of the straw, causing the 'outside' pressure to push the water through and up the straw.
