This book was made into a TV movie and it depicts how people traveled west to find a better life and it shows the heavy traffic and people robbing and killing each other out of desperation. I think the title has the word "berry" in it.

Don't know about the 'berry' part but Steinbeck's "Grapes Of Wrath" and "Cannery Row" give a good idea of what you describe.
Also, you might read (If you haven't already) Faulkner's, "Tobacco Road".

I think you are talking about "The Grapes of Wrath" by John Steinbeck. It was made into a movie in 1940 which starred Henry Fonda and was directed by John Ford. This was the movie that made Fonda a star. You can rent it at the video store, but try borrowing it from your local library. It would be free (yay free!) and since it is a classic literary work as well you could check out the book at the same time.
