If I truly loved my wife, I would put all my energies into getting her well, and if her condition is terminal, I would want to spend all our time together we had, instead of worrying about a political campaign. I feel so sorry for Elizabeth Edwards, but think John is a arrogant and self-centered.

It's really sickening. I am all for duty to one's country, but there comes a point when you realize that if you love someone, they are more important than being elected. On the other hand, what's their marriage really like? Do they even care about eachother, or do they just stand together for photos like Bill and Hillary.

You couldn't get better FOR your wife no matter how much energies you put into her getting well!
Perhaps Elizabeth Edwards wants her husband to run and the idea would make her better. Not all cancer patients want people hovering over them, suffocating them. The Edwards' have a large family. I am sure she will not be at home all alone and she may very well be out on the campaign trail with him and her mind off the cancer and chemo.

My mother went thru chemo and she didn't want us dwelling on her condition as if it defined her suddenly. I bet Edwards feels the same. She is a dynamic woman and bone cancer is very treatable. I have not heard she is anywhere near "terminal" and so why should we not give them the benefit of the doubt.

The way some of you talk about her, you either want any excuse to get Edwards out of the race or you have a double standard as Cheney is far closer to death's doorstep than Liz Edwards and should have been sent home to bed years ago!

I live in NC, and I've followed John and Elizabeth in the news and local events for years, since he first ran for Senate in 1998. They love each other very much, they spend a lot of time together. Theirs is not a 'photo-opportunity' relationship. The death of their oldest son Wade really brought them together and made them stronger. If John is continuing to run, it's because that's what Elizabeth wants him to do. He would not abandon her, he would not defy her wishes in this regard. I wish everyone had as good a marriage as they do.

Don't feel sorry for Elizabeth. You can bet that she doesn't feel sorry for herself and doesn't want anyone's pity, especially not John's.

Elizabeth wants him to run. Even if he would've dropped the race, that would have made her feel guilty. She doesn't' want to be a "burden" or hinder his possibilities for becoming president. She wants him to run and he is doing it because otherwise, his wife will feel remorseful. I knew somebody was going to call John Edwards selfish, I was just waiting for it.

I have no intention of voting for Edwards, however, none of us know what is best for them and I think it is wrong to judge anyone's decisions or reasoning in matters such as these. This may be very important to here and who knows, it may even be better than having yourself or others constantly wondering when you are going to die. If they love campaigning it may be the best thing for them. Please, let us not be so quick to judge. I intend to pray for them but not vote for him.

I havn't seen a Dem yet that I would vote for but it is a political decision not a personalk decisioin. There are many, such as, Clinton, Gore & Kerry whose personal lives repel me but I wish their families the best.

I am a Republican. I could understand your point if Liz told John to quit the nomination. I'm not sure she wants him to quit. As far as arrogant, don't rule out Hillary.

I agree with the first poster. There's a good chance that he's being unselfish by abiding by her wishes. Even though I think the guy's a dope, Im sure his wife is pushing him to continue his campaign.

His wife has terminal cancer and she wants him to keep his campaign going?? Did the cancer metastasize to the brain already? By the way, if anyone votes for this clown they need to be deported.

She wants him to continue. This seems like a family decision to be and second guessing a decision like this falls in the "it's none of my business" catagory.

what if your wife told you she wanted to see you as president before she dies .

also can you imagine the depression she would go through if he quit because of her .

this is his personal life , we have no business criticizing his actions
