Parents of babies who lived during these times had to get creative and use what was available. Babies of ancient times may have used Milkweed leaf wraps, animal skins, and other natural resources. Babies were “wrapped in swaddling bands” in many European societies where strips of linen or wool were wrapped tightly around each limb and then crosswise around the body . Faviorites were,Seal Skin, rabbit skin, milkweed leaves & swaddling bands.

At one time babies were swaddled so the strips of cloth would hold a padding in place. When small children could toddle, they did not have nappies or underclothes. Look at portraits of children in say, Tudor, times. Both little boys and girls wore long skirts.

They still wore nappies except in the past they were made of cloth instead of paper and fixed in place with a safety pin

They used pieces of material which they rinsed out and reused. Later terry napkin squares were maufactured specifically for this purpose to be replaced in the 70s and 80s by manufactured disposables.
Incidentally before sanitary towels women also used pieces of cloth which they rinsed out and reused.

Before clothes were invented its belived that the baby's had a piece of soft animal fur wrapped around them,
There mother would have three or four of them which they would use and rinse.
It would just be wrapped around them.

Yes! in the past people diapered their infants with cloth, esp during the 18th and 19th centuries. But, according to the "diaper jungle," ancient parents were known to wrap their babies in a variety of natural materials including animal skins and leaves:

they wore nappies, but not like the ones they wear today. you can still see it in cartoons like Tom and Jerry. it is like a white cloth held together with a safety pin. ( boys-blue girls-pink)
