I agree, he should get a memorial and I think blacks should get taxed for it so it can be built. Beyond that, I think there ought to be a "Slave-Owner Appreciation Month," in honor of all the slaves that were saved from being raped, tortured and murdered by their fellow countrymen.
The latest body count from Africa is in. Those murdered in civil (tribal) war in Congo has grown from 2.5 million to 3 million butchered. Rwanda, from 800,000 to 917,000 butchered. The list goes on, "ad-nauseum" for the rest of Africa.
Anyone catch that Darfur commercial? Where they talk about how many blacks are being raped, tortured and murdered every day, and they then tell Bush he needs to stop it? Right, we can't stop a mere 3 warring tribes in Iraq from killing each other daily, what chance do we have to stop 250 African tribes who have been committing Genocide against one another for thousands of years?
Given the fact that slavery literally saved the lives of all those blacks who were brought here, I totally feel that a "Slave-Owner Appreciation Month" is long over-due. Granted, actually finding a black in America that has even one ancestor descended from a slave would be like finding a needle in a haystack. Nonetheless, I think blacks should show some appropriate appreciation for the lives spared thanks to slavery. A cushy job on a farm with lots of down time, a decent place to sleep, 3 square meals a day, and no fear of being gutted like a pig by a rival tribe. Little wonder after the civil war most blacks went flooding back to the plantations to look for a job.
Africa then, just as today, is one nasty and dangerous place. Always has been, always will be. Those who want an "apology for slavery" need to go for a visit to Darfur and demand an apology there. I'm sure they would be well received. I know, let's send Al & Jesse to demand sympathy, to demand an apology. Why aren't they there now, filled with righteous indignation? I'll even buy the tickets, Dafur anyone?

Memorials cost money, and are usually paid for by family members. If you want your grandfather to have a memorial, you'll have to buy one and pay to have it set up.
