In iTunes, go to File | Add Folder to library. Find the folders in which your music is located and click Add. That should work.

You should be able to go up to "File" and then click on "Add Files to Library" or if all the music is in the same folder click on "Add Folder to Library"

If you can find the files, you should be able to drag and drop them into your iTunes library.

Yah. I ran into that a lot. iTunes isn't smart enough to figure out that the same filename doesn't need to be listed 500k times!!!
I usually add the files back by folders when I have to clean house. (File -> Add Folder)
Also, if you export your playlists, you don't have to re-create them. All you have to do then is re-import them.

Big problem
restore them from the trash folder... (...if you can)
and cancel the other copy instead
otherwise....just drag add your files in iTunes but in this case you will have to give all the inforrmation and settings gain.
