keep the baby hydrated!

2007-03-23 10:10:18 · answer #1 · answered by Anonymous · 3 1

keep baby off of solid food as it will aggravate the bowels. Give he or she plenty of water to keep them hydrated and to flush out there system. You can buy sachets of a powder called dirolyte which is a food replacement. Mix it with water and give the child that only! If symptoms persist for longer than 48 hours consult a doctor however there isn't a lot you can do for diarrhoea I'm afraid. Just make sure you keep the baby hydrated.

There is no way to get rid of diarrhea, but you do need to make sure they stay hydrated. Make sure they eat and drink. They have pedialite(sp?) drinks and popsicles. Keep and eye out for dehydration, signs are : less wet diapers, dry mouth, no tears. the soft spot on the top of their head, if it is sunken in. Also you can check my applying pressure to their middle finger until it turns white, then release, color should return within 2 seconds or so, if it takes longer than 4 seconds, they are dehydrated and you need to take them to the doctors or the hospital, because they may need to give them fluids through an IV. Also if the diarrhea last more than 3 days or so call the doctor.

I hope this helps!

If your baby has diarrhoea , he/she should only be consuming cooled boiled water to flush their little system . If you are in the UK i would suggest giving the little scone some dioralyte for essential elements which are being lost through the diarrhoea ..(salts etc) Don`t worry about giving solids to baby , as long as he/she is taking the water then thats great .

Good luck and hope baby is better soon x

Hey~~

I have always used Tea--Pedialyte--Lilytes-nothing but that no milk or anything you still need to feed the baby the formula b/c the baby is too young to go without milk if the baby was older than 12 months than you wouldn't give the baby milk but since the baby is younger than 12 months give the baby there feeding and then give them only what is described above. Or you can call your pediatrican or doctor so see what to do. But Also cola-cola(coke) can also settle the stomach as well All of these have always worked for me. Hope it works for you.
Best Wishes.

the BRAT diet.

Bananas
Rice
Apples/apple sauce/apple juice
Toast

my daughter was only 9-10 months old when she got the RotaVirus (which is like constant diarreah with a very unique smell and color...yellow).

we were told to take her off her formula and follow the diet but for no longer than a couple of days. formula irritates the bowels.

we gave her watered down applejuice to drink. sometimes i put rice cereal in her bottle. it doesn't really dissolve in the juice so you have to keep shaking it up during the feeding.

also....yogurt helps repair the damage to the intestines that the virus causes. just remember not to give the baby strawberry (allergy reasons).

if it is not better in 2 days take her back to the Dr.

P.S. RotaVirus is actually pretty common in infants. The diarreah will be like water and yellow.

my son just got over diarrhea, he's about 8 months. I took him to the doctor and he wasn't concerned, he said it was probably just an infection and it would be gone in two weeks. So, give it the two weeks and just keep the baby hydrated with pedialyte, don't give juice it just makes it worse. When he still had it 3 1/2 weeks later we started looking at his diet, I tried everything that I could think of (cutting out meat, no juice, no new foods, lots of cereal and bananas) nothing worked. Then someone told me that babies can temporarily develop milk allergies even if they've been on formula for months, the allergy often goes away once their stomaches have matured completely. But I switched him to Enfamil Prosobee (a soy formula) and the diarrhea was gone in a day.

You can't stop gypoguts in a baby like you can in an adult, the squirts are natures way of getting rid of a toxin

Don't know what your bdget is like:

Keep the baby hydrated by either using a commercial infant rehydration solution or a homemade remedy:

Tea-spoon of table salt Tea-spoon of sugar in half a litre of boiling water, stir and allow to cool (like you do with their formula) then give to baby to drink.

Then pop into the nearest doctor or emergency room.
Diorrhea in an infant is serious and should not be ignored.
Dehydration as a result of diorrhea can kill your baby

Diahhrea (I have no idea how to spell it) can be caused by a whole range of things.

The best thing to do is to take the child to the doctor to be safe.

Usually though, it's nothing serious and all you really need to do is to keep the child hydrated. Water and Pedialyte are both good choices. As far as juices go, ask your doctor. Some juices will act as a diaretic (will make things loose) and can prolong the diahhrea.

The BRAT diet usually works the best in babies this age. It's bananas, rice, applesauce and toast. Just for a day or so to help get things back in wack. Make sure you keep the baby hydrated (clear pedialyte works well, but for no more than 12 hours). If it doesn't clear up within a day when I would definitely call the doctor.

Keep up the babys fluids but for a while avoid solids, once the tummy has started to settle introduce foods slowly over a few days. Look out for signs of dehydration such as lack of wet nappies, no tears when crying, sleepy and not very responsive if you are worried or any of these signs happen seek advice from the hospital, hope your little one is soon better
