As a Mum I don't think you would even think twice about it. Protection of your child would always be first priority. Mums hearts carry this priority. And I think Dads hearts do as well.

This is based on a story I heard in church. There is a fast moving train that is closing fast on the drawbridge. The train would be unable to stop the train in time to save the passengers if the drawbridge is still up. The operator’s young son is on the tracks; too far for him get his son and rush back to close the bridge in time for the train to pass safely. He makes the decision to save the passengers and sacrifice the life of his son. As tragic as this is, it is equated with how our Heavenly Father anguished over the death of his son Jesus when he was crucified on the cross on Golgotha. It is my belief that though if I were the drawbridge operator posed with this problematic choice, it would be the toughest choice I would ever make. I would have to do my duty and sacrifice my child for the lives of the passengers on the train. Shockingly as it might seem too many people who answer this question, I believe that I will one day be with my child again. Will I be torn with grief? Yes! I will also have faith that I did the right thing.

It would depend on a lot of things like what help was available, whether I had a radio or not, type of train, how exactly my son is trapped, the area and many other factors.
I would have take into account that if my presence was required for the bridge to operate that there are a million other reasons of why I would might not be able to move the bridge. So on that note I would most likely get my son but I'd still be taking into consideration all the other factors.

Their is no choice, the train is just going to have to look out for itself. If you had a choice what would you do? To do other than save your own child would be totally unnatural. In any case the driver would see the raised bridge and stop.

If the bridge is not closed, the train will wreck and most probably kill my son anyway. So, save the people on the train.
To quote the Vulcans: The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.
What is my son doing in the machinary of the bridge? LOL

I would dispatch the train and inform them of what is happening, which will allow the train to apply it's brakes in time. Thus also allowing me to save my son. Then I would beat my son within an inch of his life for playing around dangerous equipment.

The boy dies, and it is all your fault. Would you be willing take responsibility for the deaths of a train full of innocent people, to sacrifice their lives for your own bad parenting? What is your child doing trapped in the machinery of a bridge anyway?
