i think Meg is asking because wind does not generally occur indoors.

However, air movement does, caused by passing people, a door opening or shuttings, a fan...and thus the chimes fill the house with the music of people coming and going. Perhaps instead of wind chimes they should be called air chimes...or air bells.

OMG My mother has one hanging in the middle of the damn doorway that goes from the hall into the living room. I never remember to duck when I visit, am always crashing my head into the stupid thing. It's not some little dainty thing either, it's about 2 foot long. I have no idea why she's got it there but it's been there for over a year. The only time it ever makes any noise is when someone runs into it head first.

It is for decorations and decor purposes, some people put wind chimes by their windows in their house for they can hear the music it makes better.

For decoration purposes. I have one just behind my front door, hanging from the ceiling. I like the chiming sounds. Don't understand why you should think it would be "defeating the person"??

Does not make sense. Isn't the idea of wind chimes to irritate the neighbors?

As long as there is lots of wind or air movement inside the house, it shouldn't be a problem -lol
