I just reinstalled Windows XP onto my desktop, but cannot get a screen resolution above 640x480 with 16 color. I am not using the default monitor for this computer, and when I try to do the Windows troubleshooting I am not able to access the 'properties' menu to update the driver.

What else can I try to fix this and make my screen look normal?

You will need to find out what kind of video adapter you have installed on the computer. Then you have to go to that company's website to download and install the drivers for that Video Adapter.

Keep in mind that you have to do this for your sound, network, modem and any other peripherals.

If you know the brand of your computer and the model you can try looking at their website for a driver for your video card. My Dell has a page on their website that lists all the drivers needed so yours might too.

It sounds like you have to re-install your video drivers. Find out the manufacturer of your video card and download the drivers for it.
