First of all, I'm 34 weeks pregnant.

I have had slight constipation (nothing serious) all through my pregnancy due to the fact that I am having to take iron tablets for anaemia.

Today, I haven't had a bowel movement at all (and it's bedtime here). Could this be dangerous or detrimental to my baby?

It's not constipation, I just don't feel the need to go at all, should I just ignore it and wait until tomorrow?

Thanks!

34 weeks! Woohoo you're almost done!

I don't think it'll hurt the baby. I've had two babies and went through periods of no bowl movements that lasted a couple days. My OBGYN said it wasn't a big deal. However optimal bowel behavior is to go two or three times a day. ( believe it or not) Besides how do you feel constipated when you're pregnant, especially 34 weeks? All you feel is PREGNANT.

Good natural ways to have bowel movements:
Lemon water
High fiber foods (bran, oatmeal, fruits and veggies)
soak in a hot tub (my favorite)
and a cup of caffeinated coffee (one won't hurt the baby) caffeine is a natural diuretic so is the lemon.

Good luck and congratulations on your baby!

If you are not uncomfortable, then don't worry. Make sure you drink lots and lots of fluids, eat a bran muffin for your breakfast tomorrow, drink plenty of fluids and take a walk and see how it goes-no pun intended!

You being constipated has no ill effect on the baby, is not uncommon when taking iron, and can be caused by the baby's position as well.

Ah the joys of pregnancy! lol

I was the same way when I was pregnant!! It's nothing to be too worried about, but before you take anything check with your doctor or nurse practioner. I was severly anemic when I was preggas too, and the amount of iron I had to take was amazing (to me); but my doctor monitored me closely. If you haven't had the urge to go (or haven't gone in more than a couple of days) I'd call your doctor's office. Good luck

Hi, i have been told iron tablets can make you constipation. Not every one goes for a poo every day i go twice a week so i wouldn't worried about it. When you are giving birth that's when it will probably happened. If you are so worried about it see your doctor.

Its normal to be a bit constipated while you are pregnant. But if you are really worried, talk to your doctor about stool softeners that are safe during pregnancy.

Good Luck and Congradulations.

Don't worry! It's normal and will not harm your baby:) The hopital gave me Senakot when I delivered my son a few weeks ago, and it works great. (It doesn't make you sick or anything). Congrats and Good Luck!! Oh yea- drink LOTS of liquids.

Try a stool softener, it can help everything flow better. I don't think a day or two is dangerous, but the backup can make you uncomfortable. If it gets bad, an enema will usually bring relief.
