I am 20 and had a 58 degree curve. I used to have bad back pain, but it was more like my bones were aching. And that went on since I was 12. It took me a while to find out that 800 mg of Ibuprofen (and laying on my stomach) helped greatly. I would take it when I got up, and before I went to work. It's quite possible that your scoliosis has continued to curve over the years. Have a chest x-ray and your curve remeasured when you go to the orthopedic surgeon.

It sounds like the malformation in your spine is causing nerve pain, sometimes a back problem like yours affects the sciatic nerve, resulting in shooting pains (usually down one leg) and numbness in the legs. This is because your bones or tendons are pressing on your nerves. It can be a really bad pain. I have a friend with bad scoliosis who is 57 and she can hardly get out of bed sometimes and almost screams despite herself when she gets those pains. Be glad you're getting medical attention while you're young enough for them to help you with this. Meanwhile, Ibuprofen (Advil) is the most commonly recommended pain reliever for this condition.
Good luck, and do what I do, bring a list of all your symptoms with you to your doctors appointment and use the notes to make sure to tell him everything and ask him all the questions you want to. I do this because sometimes doctors are so busy, they are in and out and I think of what I wanted to say or ask later, when it's too late. A friend recommended this to me, and it may sound silly, but what a difference it makes!
Good luck, hon, I hope you feel better.

The numbness is your nerves being pinched and the pain is from things being where it's not supposed to be. You should find a good chiropractor and look at doing that 3x a week - the sessions are only about 15 min, but it could help you out.

It sounds like you have a pinched nerve that is making your leg go numb. I have scoliosis and had to have surgery because it was moving my organs out of place and I was having trouble breathing. I would suggest going to the ortho. before considering a chiropractor. That way you can have xrays first.

I get the same thing. I have a 45 degree curvature. But I don't think the pain is from the scoliosis. I think your SI joint may be out. Have a doctor refer you to a physical therapist. Regardless of whether it is your SI joint or not, I bet they will be able to help you.

Please get an x-ray to look should you quite have a curvature and what the levels are , then come for a loose session to Bright STAR Physical Therapy' and ask for Masha. You gets the support you're watching for.
