I can understand your daughter's frustration on this subject. I don't remember having to have a gyno-type experience for my well teen check up. I did not have a breast exam or pap (or anything having to do with my genitals) until I was 20...then again, when I did go to the doctors office when I was in my teens, my mom made it quite clear that there was no reason for me to get undressed and that there was no reason for a gyno-type exam. She is a nurse and has been in that field for a long time, I think that she knew enough on the subject to know if I absolutely needed a gyno-type exam. Maybe you could talk to your daughter's doctor before the visit to be sure what exactly is going to go on. You and your daughter both deserve to know what is going to go on. After you find out what is going to go on be sure to let your daughter know. If you are not able to ask the doctor (or anyone in the office) then be sure to tell your daughter what MIGHT go on...she needs to know...

I think well teen just means it's an annual physical. At 15, your daughter doesn't need to get all worked up about being exposed during a check up. A gynecological exam is no fun if you don't like a doctor prodding you (you could always ask for a referral to a female gynecologist if that is the problem). Is that a reason to put it off - especially if teens are more sexually active younger these days? I'm not saying your daughter is, I'm saying that a physician sees a lot in his office. He knows how serious some things can be and maybe he will be able to talk to your daughter about things she can't ask anyone else. Make sure your daughter knows that what she says during the visit is confidential information for the doctor.

Yeah I remember my teen checkup. I was pretty embarrassed at the time, but nowadays I don't mind my doctor visits very much at all. I was 15 or 16 when I went. They had me undress completely (maybe I kept my socks on, I don't really remember). But anyway, he just did a head-to-toe examination, so I guess my sockies must have been off). He didn't do a pap smear, but he did look me over down there and did some poking with his fingers and stuff. He definitely did do a rectal exam that day, and that was the most embarrassing part. But I got through it and so will your daughter.

I am not the one to ask,,but,, as a dad,, I would ask the doctors office EXACTLY what he intends to do, and have it in writing. I did have to take my 13 year old daughter to a doctor once,,,I think for some kind of chest cold. I do know he was NOT happy, I was there. I am sure he wanted to simply get his Jollies. He did not ask her to strip, or anything like that. My daughter was very scared to go in there,, so, I was there for her, and glad I was. I hope moms will insist on being present for any kind of examination, to avoid a doctor from taking advantage of his ability to do as he wishes. I supect the daughter will be grateful for the mom being there for the support. We should always be there for our children, in every way.

I hated my first teen check-up, I cried, but it's ok. I'm 12 and they did a breast exam and a mild genital exam, they didn't open anything up though, I'm not sure what they'll do with her but mine really wasn't that bad though! Then they check ears and stuff and ask questions, then she might get shots and it's over.

it shouldn't be bad, they will probably do a breast exam and a brief genital exam but they are professionals and she shouldn't be worried. they won't be doing a pap or anything like that at 15 but tell her to just relax, its not a big deal and that its necessary. they will probably talk to her about safe sex and other things like that if she has an concerns that she wants answered. good luck!

well im around that age and i went 3 weeks ago and i had a gyno exam. and i have not had sex but they did it anyways, and they gave me a rectal exam, i really didnt like it and i was in pain, i wasn't crying, but i told my doctor it was unneccesary but he said its best if i do.
it wasn't that bad but he just asked me questions weighed me and such and i didnt know what was going to happen then he took me to this one room at a lower level and told me to take off my clothes and wear a hospital gown he pointed to on the seat. i thought he was just going to check my breasts so i didnt bother taking off my undies. he checked my breasts and such then told me the right way to sit on the chair then started approaching my********* and then looked and said you have to take ure undies off as well, i was frightened but i did so. he then stuck a cold metal thing in my vagina which made me scream because it hurt me a lot and i startled b/c i was not told about this then it came out bc of my startalization, and told me to relax so he can put it in me, it took me 20 minutes to let him put it in me bc of my fright and im sure u know how a gyno exam goes.
just make sure you tell her what to expect so she doesnt end up scared at the time like i was.
