That's scary. What do you mean by... assaulted? That's WRONG. Well, you could try:
1. Talk to the person who got assaulted. What exactly did this teacher do? Encourage the kid to talk to his/her parents first, and then things might just progress from that. That's incontrovertible proof right there. Its hard to deny someone directly involved, rather than someone that just...somehow knows about this. Also, get the kid to tell his/her parents.
2. Tell your parents, or a trusted adult. It's best to talk to the victim before you do this, and see their side of it - how do they feel about you telling people? Help them spread the news.
3. If a lot of people know about this, protest! Last resort, since you really don't want to get kicked out of school because of this. Rally up some friends as well as the victim to parade outside school. Remember: Last resort!
4. Get your facts straight. Make sure the victim knows what he's talking about, or else you might have the wrong story. If you DO have the right idea about this, you'll get more details, and knowledge always helps.
5. If you HAVE already talked to your parents, friends, and the victim, and yet no one believes you still, pressure your principle and the teacher to provide proof that there really is nothing going on. Go light on this! Don't get yourself expelled. Make to a) get your facts straight b) provide proof with those facts and c) you have friends to support you.
6. Get the police involved. This is a CRIME. That part is self explanitory. Provide proof and say all you know. Get the victim involved too, and get him/her to speak out for themselves. Also, if he/she really is playing a joke on you to make you look stupid, or trying to draw attention to himself/herself, that person might not want to go up to the police.
You may want to look up things on the web to see what the experts say. Good idea posting this here.
Hope this helps.

How did the teacher assault the student? Did he hit him and caused alot of physical damage? If he did, then you should tell the principal. I'm sure if you get your classmates to back you up, then the principal will fire the teacher.

If the student who was assaulted isn't complaining, then you probably can't do anything.
