2 × width + 2 × length = perimeter

length = (perimeter - 2 × width) / 2

length = (20 feet – 2 × 3 feet) / 2

length = 7 feet

a. Seven-- in a rectangle each set of sides are equal. Width is 3. 3 x 2 (for the other side) = 6 20(Perimeter) - 6 = 14. 14 is added width of 2 remaining sides, which are equal so divide 14 by 2. 7! yay

b. x = 2/3y + 2

3x - 2y = 6
move 2y over by adding 2y to both sides
3x = 2y + 6
divide both sides by 3 to isolate x
x = 2/3y + 2

A.) perimeter of a rectangle = 2(length+width)
Let length be x.
20 = 2(3+x)
3+x = 10
x = 10-3
x = 7
Length is 7 ft.
B.) 3x-2y = 6
3x = 6+2y
x = (6+2y)/3
x = 2 + (2/3)y

You subtract the two 3 ft sides from the perimeter leaving 14. Then you split 14 in 2 giving 7 ft.

A. Length is 7 feet
B. You'd solve this equation for x as follows:

3x - 2y = 6
Now add 2y to each side of the equation.
3x = 6 + 2y
Now divide each side of the equation by 3.
x = 2 + (2/3)y
However, do they tell you what Y is equal to? Without knowing what Y is this is the best equation to give. I'd be able to help more if I knew what Y was. Being a teacher, I'd accept this answer. Good luck!!

A) A rectangle has 4 sides...2 lengths and 2 widths....P= 2L + 2w.Now substitute the information given into the equation.....20 = 2L + 6...solve for L......20 - 6 = 2L.....14 =2L...L= 7.

B) Add 2y to both sides of the equation. 3x -2y +2y =6 +2y.......3x = 6 + 2y......divide by 3....x = 2 + 2/3y

A.

perimiter = 2*width + 2*length

20 = 2(3) + 2(length)
20 = 6 + 2L
14 = 2L

L = 7

check

20 = 2(3) + 2(7)
20 = 6 + 14
20 = 20

B.

3x - 2y = 6
3x = 6 + 2y

x = 2 + 2y/3

what is this the 6th grade again???

2(w+l) = p or 2w + 2l = p

that means that a rectangle has 4 sides, two widths and two lengths add them up and you get p (perimeter)

so if you know your width and you know your perimeter your set.

p = 20
w = 3
l = ?

2(3+L) = 20
6 + 2L = 20
2L = 14
L = 7

so your width is 3 feet, two widths = 6 feet for your width.
your length is 7 feet, two lengths = 14 feet.
6ft + 14ft = 20 ft!

b)

haha figure that out on your own... aint hard.

P = 2(l + w)
20 = 2(l + 3)
20 = 2l + 6
14 = 2l
7 = l
Length is 7 ft

3x - 2y = 6
3x = 2y + 6
x = 2/3y + 2
