Well....I don't think love is going to work with a fear of spiders. lol I would say that fear can be overcome through understanding, and reason. I used to be afraid of the dark as a kid. The usual, demons, ghosts, spirits, boogieman type stuff. It would keep me up almost every night as I had an overactive imagination. Then as I began to get older, I looked into the subject, and found that it was all in my head. There is no such thing as any of these, and the only thing that says they are true are myths, and folklore. I even got myself to believe the bible was/is a lie. There is no one "watching me", my dead ancestors do not live around me. demons don't lurk the earth, and the Devil really isn't that bad of guy. The biggest fact I found is that no one has ever proved that any of these things exist. So, I guess intelligence conquers fear. After I had tossed out my fear of the dark, I came to embrace it. Now I spend most of my day in the dark. :)

Girl I really don't kow what to tell you. I really feel you all the way. (Not like that for you sickos out there). I am so chicken when it comes to watching scary movies. When I'm alone @ work (a hotel) and it's quite sometimes I get freaked out if a commercial for a scary movie comes on. When I was younger I watched Candyman at one of my friends parties and when I got home I took my bed off the frame and set it on the floor so I knew nothing would be under it. When I saw the movie It I was SOOOOOOOOOO totally freaked. Everytime I would walk by a sewer grate along the road I would look down it and be scared. Even sitting here @ work now I'm getting a little freaked out cuz it's like super quite. I just have an imagination that runs wild and free, and I let it get the best of me. So sorry I don't know what to tell you. What I really hate is those movies that are based on a true story. Especially White Noise. That movie scared the Sh** out of me. I had also watched that episode of Maury about it.

perhaps you should small doses of dark sessions , slowly and try to listen if you hear things ...if you know your place well ? try at times to get ajusted to the dark room ....
i used to be scared too , but i slowly got out of it ..i actually feel safer in the dark , if outside ..and in my place ? no problems , it is a matter of getting confidence in you , and trusting yourself , if you are young , i can understand your fear ,
i really could not find the words to confort you and help , so i looked on the net , found this to read if you would like to ?
UNDERSTAND FEAR OF THE DARK
The first thing to understand is that fear is a natural and normal human 'negative' emotion. The purpose of negative emotions is to tell us that something isn't quite right; an indication that we need to take some kind of action.
In the case of fear, the message is 'danger'. While we are born with fear of loud noises and fear of heights 'pre-wired' in our nervous systems, and all other fears are learned from 'experience'.
The catch is, our mind is so powerful, that the 'experience' doesn't have to have been real, it could just have been vividly imagined. (That's why you can get feelings about darkness or the dark just by thinking; you don't have to actually be there).

hope it helps some ?:-)

You may never, I'm afraid of the dark myself but I just know that boogey-mans and movies are just that and they don't exist. What I'm afraid of is the unknown world. Burgulars, etc. The shower bit, well your just going to have to know and realize that nothing is going to happen. It's all in your mind and it's a mind over matter thing. Your letting your mind control you and it's time that you stop. Maybe talk to someone about it or you could stop watching movies that will scare you and try to keep reminding yourself that it's not real and you have nothing to be afraid of.

Well for one thing no fear is silly if it's something you think is frightining then your probally right to think so, and for overcoming this fear you should just say to yourself "well if something comes up my shower drain while i'm in there, then I can just pee on it hehe, and about being in the dark just eat really spicy food and let it all out, I promise you that nothing will want to be near you then hehe.

The only way to overcome your fear is to face your fear. Since these two entities do not exist it's a little hard to face your fears. It makes you wonder why somehow we are all still scared of the boogey man.

Go into the dark areas and scream yer head off, letting the fear flow through you. Scream until you find the angry bit that's not afraid, and yell at the little bastards and sick people who make those movies.

I was in my 30s when I read "It" and it scared the time out of me for some reason, lol.
it was months before I could sit on a toilet and not think about it.
When you start thinking about it, as soon as it enters your mind, start thinking of something else. Doesn't matter what. Or sing a song.
Or you could try aversion therapy, where you think of something disgusting or painful.
Soon you will not think of it as much, and it will improve daily.
Just DO NOT let yourself continue to think about it when the thoughts pop in there.

I am very scared of those things too! Its okay...just think it was a movie....it was a movie...over and over and just think about things to keep your mind off of it, when you are in the shower out the radio or a CD on...i just plug it in and turn it up really loud in the bathroom. Just think of little things like this to help you stop thinking about it! :-)
