Human life ... four legs as infants crawling, two legs through most of life, and three legs (the cane) when walking gets a little tougher in the elder years.

This is a very OLD, OLD riddle.

Human beings from early childhood to old age!

Four legs isn't totally correct though, which can lead to complete & utter confusion for some folks; a baby or toddler realistically only uses two legs (mainly his knees, not even his feet yet!) and two arms & hands so there you go buddy!

Or me when I'm on all fours begging for mercy & forgiveness, two legs when I run away being threatened by the only person who can offer me redemption and/or salvation and finally, three legs when that same person has just busted my knee caps and I then need a cane to walk with!!!
