Recently, I shoplifted from a nearby store. I was caught and somehow I am really grateful that they stopped me. I told them how sorry I was and that I would never do it again. But I am starting to become afraid of myself. I get this feeling that I might do it again. I'm feel VERY GUILTY , lost, and confused. I don't want to do it again, but I feel like I'm going to. How do I prevent myself?

I'm still sixteen and my mom is extremly disappointed in me. I don't know how to face her. She even got angry at me when I got an A- at college(I graduated from high school early).

That's one of the pitfalls of shoplifting. When you were a little kid you would probably never steal. Now that you started it is easy to do again--and again. Believe it or not, I have heard this problem discussed in Alcoholics Anonymous!
The solution is to one day at a time. While you have the guilt make use of it. After you pile up many days in which you did not shoplift you will regain your balance--like riding a bike. Don't let yourself down. Don't play with it.

You need to see a counsellor. Impulse control problems almost always result in incarceration, and once you're in jail, all sorts of other things can happen to you to make things worse. Even if you spend your last dollar on the counsellor it will be worth it. Tell your mom you need counselling for this to make sure you don't do it again.

The answer is simple. You need counseling from someone that you trust. I don't know why you have this urge, but if it is not properly addressed, it will eventually lead to serious trouble. Talk to someone who is an authority figure in your life.

Yes, I think talking to someone you trust will be helpful, but prayer will help to.
