My best friend for 8 years, female, has broken up our friendship over me questioning her about a possible cheating encounter. She says it was lunch, I say why so defensive if it was lunch.Trying to talk to her about this topic makes her uncomfortable and pushes her away. Ok, I forgive; how do I get the friendship back? Do I overlook it? The pink elephant is becoming way too uncomfortable.

Ask yourself why it was important for you to corner her about this? If the "lunch" she went on was more than a simple lunch, wouldn't you prefer that she have a good friend to talk to about it? Bottom line, its none of your business. You might give her a call and tell her that you crossed a line, that you went too far, and that what she does is really up to her, that you love her and value her as a friend. Then back off and wait. In the meantime, do a little self-evaluation about your own motives and possible judgements here. Good luck!
