Need to get rid of pet odors?

Hi, I just purchased a home and the people that lived there before had cats and dogs, the house has an odor of cat pee and wet dog, what can I do besides getting the carpets cleaned and putting air freshener in the furnace filter to get rid of these odors? would appreciate any suggestions, thnx

Often the padding under the carpet is the problem- if it is within your means to replace the carpet (with new carpet, wood, tile, etc) that would be the best.

Air freshener is great but don't overdo it- no one likes the smell of flowers-and-pee. Arm and Hammer makes a great carpet powder that goes on before vacuuming- I highly recommend their pet powder in a box. You really should consider having the carpet professionally cleaned (ask the difference between steam clean and shampoo).

The BEST thing to do if not replacing the flooring is to paint the walls. Yep, you hear right- a coat of paint in the interior does wonders. Vacuum and paint will do a lot of good- good luck!

you may have to check with a local cleaning company or even a pet store for help, but from what I've been told, there is no getting rid of the odor form cat urine in carpet/furniture, no matter what you do.
