People - I know a lot of really wonderful Democrats and I think very highly of them.
Policies - The *idea* behind the Dems social policies I like...but the implementation...not so much. (*note - I am *not* blaming all of the implementation problems on the Democrats!) I *do* think that we need to help out the less fortunate, but we punish our low-wage earners in this country while rewarding those who just want a hand out, and that's appalling.

They keep up the pretence of being opposing parties, when in fact they are both mere agents for corporate America. When the public gets to disgusted by the Republican blatant greed and corruption, they switch to the Democrats hoping for change. Except for some cosmetic surgery to make the party look more presentable, it is still merely the other side of the same coin....Mary.

I feel for the people who don't know any better.
The dollar you take from me to funnel through a bureaucracy and give 75 cents to a political hack and then dole out 25 cents 6 months later to some schlub who lost his job at the widget factory or show room, I would have spent on a widget, invested in the widget company or deposited at the bank where the widget company has a line of credit, and the poor schlub would have kept his job.
But if the poor schlub grasped that he wouldn't be working third shift for Ace Widget Company. He sees how government largesse aided him in his time of woe but he doesn't see how the tax burden put in place to pay for it caused his woe.
Oh, the pathos....

I like being challenged by opposing viewpoints.
I also like how the extreme ideologies are kept in check through the two-party system and checks-and-balances.

Republicans (not the slobbering, generalizing neocons on this site who object to things simply because a Democrat says them, but the REAL Republicans who are capable of conservation) are very intelligent, well-spoken people who, like myself, defend what they believe in despite what is said to them about it. That said, the Republicans I respect are respectful of others' opinions. They don't call me unAmerican simply because I disagree with them.
Policy... well, these days, it's hard to find anything about their policy that is attractive. Republicans used to be a party of fiscal responsibility, which sure would come in handy right about now, though.
