What world are you talking about? Ancient Rome? France in the 1700's? Ireland in the 1840's? Germany in the 1930's? I'm sure poetry was very relevant during those very hard times.
I think poetry is still relevant today, though we live in a world filled with love and that has much less war than previous eras.

The world has always been full of hate, war and lovelessness, so poetry is just as relevant now as it ever was.

Poetry is very much relevant today! Think about it. There has always been hate, war, lovelessness, etc., but so has there always been poetry. One of the best uses of poetry is applying to current social events.

Definitely. When people are poor and they live in squalid conditions they have nothing to live for and they become terrorists and blow themselves up. If everybody had enough to make them happy they wouldn't have to resort to violent acts which only beget more violent acts.
Oops! I'm sorry, I thought you said POVERTY. Yes, poetry is always relevant. If we can teach people to communicate in beautiful language instead of with weapons and threats think what a wonderful place the world would be.

Poetry can cross the barrier lines because emotion is something everyone understands. Poetry will never NOT be needed.

i say yes, and it is needed now even more. don't let hatred stop you from saying what you have to, write on!!! i constantly write poems and i'm in the 10th grade and we have poetry slams at my school. just find a poetry club or something and get involved. happy writing =)
