Ask Neil. He'll tell you he was born gay. If you don't believe him, that's fine. I was born gay, because there's no other way to become gay. I'm still gay because I can't change that. It's impossible to change. But you don't have to believe me. If Neil is your Friend, I hope you stay his Friend.

People say they are born gay, or straight, because they are. If Neil was born gay, he always was and always will be.
People take different amounts of time to understand their natural, inborn sexual orientation.

You need to open your mind to the fact that there are things that do not conform to standard beliefs most people believe. People are gay because they are born that way. We in no way would choose to be hated and discriminated against.

There are numerous studies in animals and humans that are providing mounting evidence that sexual orientation is strongly influenced by genetic variation, fetal development in the uterus, or both. The most common analogy is people who are born left-handed rather than right-handed.
One does not know at birth whether a child is right handed or left handed. Instead, this is discovered when the child begins to need to show dominance in one hand or the other. Similarly, one does not know at birth whether a child is straight, bisexual or gay. This is discovered only when attractions toward a particular gender appear.
Most people don't think about whether they are right handed, because that's the norm. Only people who are left-handed stand out. Similarly, most people find themselves attracted to members of the opposite sex. Only those who discover they are attracted to members of their own gender are aware of their difference. Unlike handedness, it is relatively easy to hide one's sexual preference, so although you didn't know Neil was gay, it is extremely likely that he, like myself, came to understand over time that his primary sexual attractions were toward men rather than women.
I hope this is helpful.

Yes, he was born with that orientation.
Whether or not you actually accept the truth does not change anything.
