If CONCACAF Champions Cup is any indication it's closer than many people think. I mean the real possibility of 2 US teams playing in the final tells a lot. I would suggest it's about 5 years away. It will never match the mexican league in popularity - too much competition on the US sports scene - but in terms of quality I think it is that close. Every year more and more exciting local US talent is coming up and the teams are becoming stronger. With MLS teams now having their own academies that will work even better. Beckham will help too - simply by attracting a little more attention.

Given that there is a lot more money in the US than there is in Mexico, I'd say not that far away at all. Funny how quality players always follow the money. David Beckham for instance.

Not very Far,when one of the best teams in Mexico (Pachuca) looses to Houston Dynamo and the most popular team and all reign champions (Guadalajara) couldn't beat DC United it tells you a lot, I think it will never be bigger in popularity, but in talent I'll give approx. 5 years to be better
